Lush

This is a sweet, cute book. Rock star Damien meets the lovely Mary who is the friend of  his friends wife. They are helplessly attracted to each other and immediately start a sexual relationship, but then he has to leave for tours. They play the long distance game of texts, calls, Skype and when they finally meet again it is sweet. They have a whirlwind romance when she goes with her friend to visit and has to deal with the paparazzi and fans who whip off shirts for him to sign boobs until she agrees to visit him at his family's home. There it is relaxing and she meets all the brothers and his parents who she loves. She falls in love with him and when he offers her a job so she can stay with him while they are making their new album she is all for it. Then she finds a picture of him with his hand on another woman's ass as well as her kissing him. This just happens to not be that long ago either and he had never said a word about it. She takes her stuff and leaves with no explanation to him and goes home. He comes home to find her gone and freaks out trying to get hold of her. When finally he pays her a visit he brings his mom along to help him explain. After the explanation she caves because she loves him so dearly and since he did nothing wrong they get back together. 

That is just a quick sum up of the book and I don't want to tell you too much about it, because you need to read it for yourself. I would rate this book a four out of five and recommend it freely to others. 

Hero of My Heart

It has been a long time since I have read a book I couldn't decide if I liked or hated. The beginning was really good and drew me in but then somewhere after our main characters meet I lost interest. Then there was drama on the road together that drew me back in but again I lost it sometime after that. The characters just weren't believable I guess and I couldn't find myself relating to anything. There is a vicars daughter, Mary, whose father has recently died and her half brother who wants to sell her to the highest bidder due to gambling debts. I wish there had been more back story in the very beginning so we could know what kind of person this half brother is and why this was his last resort. After Mary is bought and paid for by Lord Alasdair who is an addict of Opium, they go on an adventure, he wants to wed her because he has plans to help her get her life back in order since his life is so terrible. I didn't quite understand how he planned on that since she takes care of him pretty much half of the beginning of the book. Then after marriage he wants to help her find her mother in London. We never find out why her mother gave her up only that her parents didn't like the match. We don't  find out until later that her mother and father were married in secret before she was born either since her father told her they had never been married and she was a bastard. When we do finally meet the mother she appears nice, but then when they confront her she thinks only of herself and how the public cannot let her claim Mary in public. What a mother eh. Then Alasdair basically dumps her on her own claiming he wants to be separated, Mary is distraught and realizes she loves him and misses him. We go on for awhile without hearing anything about him until we come to him helping soldiers who are addicted to opium as well. Then Mary appears, how she finds him I'm not sure but she forgives him and tells him she knows he loves her and then the end. I hated how this ended. How did she find him? I would rate this book a two out of five.

Buzz Books 2013 Spring/Summer

I had never read a book like this with little teasers from upcoming books, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I wish there was a book like this for EVERY new batch of books per category  That would really  help me out with my book buys. I found a couple of books that I really want to read in here. One was a story of a girl in Japan who writes the story of a family member and then another woman finds her diary and papers stored in a Hello Kitty lunch box across the world. Then there was one about a family that is murdered during an Indian raid and two bothers are taken captive and the struggles they have while with the Indians and it says the book goes with this family through different generations. What I read of it really drew me in and I have already requested to read it on NetGalley and if it do not get to read it there I will have to wait until it comes out! I rate this book a five out of five and a very helpful book.

Along Came Trouble

Along Came Trouble is the story of a single mother who is a little obsessed in my opinion with keeping things her way and nothing else will work. When we first meet Ellen she is trying to get rid of a paparazzi who just will not go away. With a little help from a good looking stranger she gets rid of him and a whole new way of life begins. She finds out Caleb, the good looking stranger, has been hired by her brother to keep her and her neighbor safe from anyone and anything.  Her brother is the famous one but when he became involved with her neighbor he drew the press  so she understands his concern but she is reluctant to let anyone tell her how to live her life. 

Caleb is a former MP and has recently given up his military career to help out at home after his fathers stroke. He deals with an ungrateful mother and then with a frustrating attractive single mother who will do nothing he wants. He realizes he is attracted to Ellen and tries to stay away from that part of their relationship to keep it simply professional but when she hits on him he realizes that isn't going to work. It becomes harder and harder for him to do his job with her constantly fighting him on the simplest things like putting up security lights. 

I really enjoyed reading this book, as well as enjoyed delving into the characters lives. I love how Caleb and Ellen are drawn together even when she is fighting to not care for him he gets under her skin. I also loved how we read about her brother and the woman he loves and the tribulations they go through to find happiness. 

One thing I really hated was the way Ellen acts like she can't have a life after having a divorce and being a single mother. I found myself yelling at her toward the end of the book but even closer to the beginning I began becoming annoyed with her. I cannot go into specifics because you need to read that yourself so I will simply say that even with the annoying woman, this is a good read and I would rate it three out of five. 

 

Gabriel Stone and the Divinity of Valta

This book is a good read for adults as well as children. It's an amazing adventure of three friends and one surly annoying boy to a land similar to theirs but things are a bit different. Gabriel, Brent and Piper are out hiking and find something special but they aren't sure what it is. They take it to their school and ask the science teacher to tells them to make it into a science project. They head out to find out exactly what it is and along the way they find out a school mate of theirs knows about their project and he wants it for himself. There is a scuffle and they are transported to another land. As they make their way through this land they find talking animals as well as dangerous obstacles. Making friends with some talking monkeys they find their way toward a town where they are told they will find help. . There are evil beings, that are trying to take them to an evil ruler who wants to rule the entire land and will stop at nothing. They meet the kind Empress and she gives them each a special power that will help them along their way. There is so much more to this book but I do not want to ruin it for anyone! Please take time out to read this book to your kids or even let them read it to you! I would rate this book a four out of five stars.

Double Crossed

Having only been able to read a couple of chapters in this book as it was a teaser I don't have a lot to really say about this book other than the suspense is killing me! I really enjoyed what I read and hated for it to end suddenly! I look forward to purchasing this book and finishing it. I would rate what I have read a five out of five stars!

I have always had an interest in real crime stories, as they intrigue me. We always wonder why would someone do this or that and the authors usually give us a pretty good idea of why some people commit murder. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, I love how the author really drew us into this murder and also how the victim may have been feeling at any given time in the book. We really care for our victim by the end of the book and we want to see the people or person responsible pay for what they have done. I was cheering the cops on by the end. The husband on the other  hand made me want to slam his head against a wall and ask where his brain is. I could tell from the first meeting with this mistress that there is something wrong with her. You know how some people give you the heebee-jeebies? Well that is what I got reading about this woman. 

I didn't really dislike anything about the book because everything was answered and everything was clearly gone into every little detail about. The fact that this is what really happened makes it all the better.  I would rate this book a four out of five and look forward to reading more by this author.
