Review:

I was so lost when I started this book since I had never read any of the others in the series. I did get an idea of what was going on somewhat quickly, and even though it seems to have a good story line, I just couldn't get into it as much as I would have liked. The characters are somewhat interesting on their own though. I probably wouldn't be bothered to read the first two in the series however.

New Adult Romance
Date Published: February 13, 2014

Emma

Who I am and all I believe is marred with just one glance into angry, steel blue eyes. He seems to control my air, my ability to breathe. He makes me crave everything I know is a sin. Pure becomes tainted and lines are blurred. It's my fault; I'm the one who isn't strong enough. I've been damaged...broken. Breck's words haunt me...'There's a consequence for every choice you make.'

Breck

I've had so many women I can't even remember over half of their names, but none of them are mine; I make damn sure of that. I take what I desire and never look back. I don't need or want anyone, ever...not until I met Emma. Those eyes bore into what's left of my soul and her touch sears me, weakens me. I want to hate her for that. She is my ruin...my sweetest hell.

Disclaimer: Intended for readers 18+ due to strong language, mature scenes, and some violence.

EXCERPT

His confession knocks the air out of me, just as ruthlessly as if he punched me in the stomach.  I gasp, desperately try to fill my lungs with air, “I am yours. You’ve always had me; even when I hated you, you had me.”
All coherent thoughts disintegrate when Breck grabs my shoulders, pulling me against him.  The heat of his body radiates through my skin as his hand runs behind my head, sliding up my neck until his fingers are tangled in my hair, pulling it until my mouth is almost touching his.  The intensity of his gaze weakens me.  Steel blue phases into a stormy gray as his mouth collides with mine.
My head spins. My knees go weak as I collapse against him, my body not able to handle the intensity of the sensations exploding inside of me.  Breck’s lips claim mine with such power, for one second, I am afraid.  I know the danger of losing myself in him, but then the fear is gone; there is no one else I would rather lose myself to.
His hand fists my hair as his kiss deepens, his tongue pushing, probing, demanding access.  Opening my mouth, I kiss him back.  The feel of his lips conquering me, the taste of his tongue as it slides over mine, colliding, taming, plundering, sends the sweetest shivers down my spine.  His teeth graze my bottom lip, nipping and lavishing as his tongue tastes my lips, then plunges inside again, breaking me to his will.  I need him with such desperation, I cringe at my weakness but allow him to tame me.

EXCERPT

I dislike having to murder someone. Kidnapping is worse. At least when I setup a kill, I know what's coming. No connections, no honesty, no surprises. Everything I say and do are just steps to luring in my victim. Once the victim falls right into the trap, the next move is swift: crushed windpipe, fatal concussion, or a good ol' fashioned headshot.

Kidnapping, on the other hand, is a little trickier. First, the victim has an opportunity to respond. I don't like this. Sometimes they cry. Sometimes they manage to alert the authorities. And sometimes they escape, usually by inflicting bodily harm on me.

Dead people don't retaliate. Kidnapped ones, well, they're a little more . . . lively.

The second major difference between killing and kidnapping is my conscience. I get in and out with a kill. We have no chance to bond.

Abductees require a little more one-on-one. As much as I try to keep the switch turned off, I can't help but listen to their pleas and demands. And I usually realize I'm a jerk.

That's exactly where I find myself one late afternoon in June. I prefer doing this at night, but moreover, I would prefer not doing this at all.

Instead, I have a belligerent nine year old girl sitting in the passenger seat of my Honda Accord, shackles on her wrists and ankles and a small stuffed bunny on her lap. She's eying me in a way that makes me self-conscious. Like I'm the bad guy.

Probably because I am the bad guy.

Publication Date: February 12, 2014

Review:

This is the second book in Violetta Rand's Blind series and I personally have to say I love it! I have always had a thing for vikings and that era, so when I saw this series I knew I had to read them. There is just something about Tyr that makes you fall for him right away, he's proud, arrogant and courageous but at times seems vulnerable in a way that makes him more lovable. He feels guilt over the death of his brother and there is a scene in the woods that brought tears to my eyes. I have a bit of an obsession for him and I'm not ashamed to admit it lol. With the sexual tension between Tyr and Rachelle I must say I enjoyed it very much!

There is so much in this book, the greed and jealousy as well as the betrayal will send your head spinning! I was able to connect with the characters during everything they went through, granted there were times I wanted to punch certain people and at other times I was fist pumping and almost jumping up and down. I grew a bit teary eyed during a certain reunion....I know I'm an emotional mess lol.

It's books like this that make reading a joy as well as an adventure! The author is able to not only entertain me with her wit but also able to draw me into another time. That in itself is unique and I for one am anxiously awaiting the next installment!!! I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars!!!!! Cannot wait to read more by this author!!!!

Perfectly Broken by Prescott Lane

Description:

Contemporary Romance
Date Published: March 2014

Even after years of trauma therapy, Peyton still believes she’s broken.  She has little desire to date or show off her natural beauty, content simply to hang out with her best friends and run her pie shop in New Orleans.  But her world turns upside-down when a handsome architect and self-confessed player shows up in her shop and thinks she’s perfect, much more than the usual hook-up.  While Peyton does her best to resist his charms, believing she could never be enough for him, she can’t deny the obvious heat between them.  With Reed determined to have her, Peyton must decide whether to continue to hide behind her apron and baggy clothes or take a chance and share her scars with Reed, a man with a playboy reputation and scars of his own -- a dark past he can’t possibly share with Peyton, not after learning the horrors she’s endured.  But if they can find a way to trust each other, and themselves, they just might be able to heal, to save each other, to live perfectly broken together.

Review:

I have never been much for books that have you flipping from different points of view through them, but this book was an exception. I really enjoyed this book and the characters. The banter between the characters will have you laughing or at least smiling like a crazy person ( I know this because my husband asked what I was smiling at while I was reading lol). It broke my heart knowing that Peyton blamed her "old-self" for the attack, which is why she now wears the baggy clothes and is shy. I just want to throw in here that Peyton's therapist is the bomb, I have never personally had a therapist, however if I did ever need one I would wish for one like that.

Reed, oh Reed, what to say about that sexy man???? One word that comes to mind is RELENTLESS! That man just doesn't give up lol. He is just so yummy and even though he is your typical player, he begins to change. Peyton knows she deserves more than he is offering, but also, and  I feel Peyton's pain in this, she feels dirty, used up and that once he finds out he won't want her anymore. Despite what she thinks she cannot help but be drawn and attracted to him. I think the chemistry between the two is amazing and lovely to read. There is a lot of drama and excitement stuck in this book and I have loved every minute of it as well as loved all the characters. I have never read a book by this author before, but I will most certainly check out more of her works from here on out.

Sexual Appetites of Vampires - PROMO Blitz
By Donna Fletcher
Paranormal Romance
Date Published: February 25, 2014

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Lara Bennett intends to only take a few minutes of Michael Valaine’s time. But then she only has a few minutes since a snowstorm is about to hit the area. She’ll interview him, ask him a few questions about his family’s strange heritage and be on her way before the first snowflake falls.

Things don’t go as planned for Lara. First, Michael Valaine is a drop-dead gorgeous man and second, and most importantly, he claims to be a vampire. She assumes he’s either annoyed with her for her impromptu interview or he’s crazy, either way she wants out of his home and away from him.

A blinding snowstorm stops her from leaving and she’s faced with the prospect of riding it out with either a crazy man or a vampire. That is until Michael’s eyes begin to glow red, his lips draw back in a snarl, and his fangs descend.

Lara’s about to find out, firsthand, the information she came looking for...exactly what is the sexual appetites of vampires?

EXCERPT

Lara had met plenty of people who believed themselves a creature of the night. Some were just plain nuts while others played at it. She wasn’t sure if Michael Valaine fell into either category. And that was even more frightening.

“The need for sex can border on complete madness when a vampire is in need of it.”

Madness. Now there was something she could agree with. Michael Valaine was stark raving mad.

“But that type of aching hunger, a need to devour, is what vampires try to keep at bay for it comes with consequences. So we keep ourselves well satisfied with sex with willing human women of which there is an abundant supply.”

Lara finally had it. “You’ve got to be kidding me. You really expect me to believe this bullshit. I get it. You’re annoyed with me for showing up unexpected, and so you decide to play a little game with me. See if I frighten easily. Well, you chose the wrong woman, buddy. But I do have to thank you for giving me some great material for the book. Now I’m leaving and will never darken your already dark doorstep again.”

“What were you expecting to find when you came here?” he asked accusingly.

His dark eyes grew so intense that Lara thought they glowed black. “Certainly not a grown man who claims he’s a vampire.”

“So you’re upset because you meet a vampire who can answer your questions about sex?”

Lara rolled her eyes. “Really? You’re going to continue to claim that you’re a vampire. A blood-sucking, unearthly creature that is ravenous when it comes to sex.”

“I thought you came for the truth.”

“The truth would be nice, but it seems that you are intent on continuing your little game. I, however, do not wish to play.”

That sly smile of his surfaced again. “I guarantee that you would enjoy playing with me, Lara.”

            “That’s it, I’m leaving.”

Michael stood. “I’ll see you to the door.”

“Not necessary, I know the way out,” she said, buttoning up her jacket.

“Just because I am a vampire doesn’t mean I’m not a gentleman,” he said and stepped aside for her to pass.

“A gentlemen vampire, now there’s an oxymoron if ever I heard one,” Lara said as she scooted past him, eager to get out of the house and as far away from Michael Alexandru Valaine that she could get.

A phone’s jarring ring startled Lara as she entered the foyer and made her way to the front door.

Michael picked up the phone on the side table behind the vase of a beautiful winter flora arrangement. “Michael Valaine. I see. No, not to worry I will see to the matter. Thank you for calling and see that you take care in this storm. I hear that it is to last at least two days. Good. I’m glad to hear that. My regards to your family.”

He sounded so civilized and so normal that Lara grew more annoyed. Why had he treated her in such a ridiculous fashion? Why hadn’t he simply told her that he wasn’t interested in speaking with her and send her on her way?

He approached her slowly, almost predatorily. And she was damn glad she was leaving.

He stopped next to the door, taking hold of the handle. “That was Martha. She has calls for her bed & breakfast forwarded to her sister’s place when she’s not there. Your car service called and cancelled. The snow has already started and with predictions worse than they first thought, they won’t endanger their driver or you. It looks like you’ll be my guest for the duration.”

“Hell no! I’ll find someplace to stay, but it won’t be with you,” she said and shoved his hand off the door to swing it open. Her heart dropped along with her mouth at the sight of the blizzard-like conditions. She could barely make out what was in front of her, since the snow was falling so heavily.

Michael pulled the door closed and turned the lock. The click sounded so final, as if a jailer was locking her in and there would be no escape. She was trapped with a sexy hunk of a man who thought himself a vampire. It sounded more like the setting of a romance novel than real life. But she was no swooning heroine.

She looked Michael Valaine straight in those dark eyes of his and felt like a fool saying, “Tell me you’ve been playing me and that you’re no vampire.”

“Oh, sweetheart, if only I could.”

His eyes began to glow red, his lips curled back, fangs dropped down, and Lara fainted.
